A Welcome From the CEO
Community Schools Alliance Trust (CSAT) is an Academy Trust comprising of two schools, Cheney School secondary school and Bayards Hill primary school. Cheney School became an Academy in January 2013 after a thorough consultation with our school community and we were approved by the Department for Education in October 2014 to become the sponsor for Bayards Hill Primary School.
Our aim is for every young child and young person to benefit from a world class education and one which inspires our school communities to achieve more than they thought possible. Our commitment to these principles is evident through our working practices, which focus on making the difference to the life chances of our pupils and students. Academy staff and students work together and learn together, and by doing so our practice is continually improving and bringing about the changes required to deliver on our ambitious aims.
We work with Bayards Hill to help accelerate pupil progress so that they have every opportunity to progress when they join secondary school. This will not impact our admission arrangements and we will continue to work in close partnership with all our feeder primary schools.
We have recently been named as the sponsor for the new school to be built in the Barton Park development in Oxford, which we are extremely pleased about and it will continue the close relationship we have built up with the community within Barton.
If you have any queries about CSAT do not hesitate to contact me, I would be delighted to answer your questions.
Ms Jolie Kirby, CEO of CSAT
A Welcome from the chair of trustees
Welcome to the new academic year. I am very grateful and excited to have become Chair of CSAT at such an exciting time for the Trust and the schools in it. I am very much looking forward to working with you all as we continue on our mission to raise attainment and improve progression for all our learners and especially vulnerable children and to focus on the wellbeing of children and staff alike. I know there is a huge amount of work going on in both schools to achieve these aims, and to also deliver the specific improvements, such as improving the attainment of our post 16 learners. I am also keen to see the development of the Barton Park school building as we set ourselves up to grow and apply our vision and values to this new school in 2020.
I hope the term has got off to a good start for you all. We will be updating you on Trust developments regularly through the CSAT newsletter and I look forward to hearing about all the wonderful things you are achieving as we go through the year.
With all best wishes

Bayards Hill is a bright and welcoming place where everyone is treated as a uniquely talented individual. We strive to ensure that every member of our school community is able to achieve their best and to promote a love of learning that we hope will stay with our pupils long after they have left us.
Our aim is to develop a school environment that is engaging, exciting and enriched in learning opportunities that enable everyone to reach new heights. Our school motto is ‘Believe Bigger, Aim Higher’ and to that end we support, help and learn together to enable all pupils to go from strength to strength and realise their dreams.
We have high expectations of all students and place a very high value on making sure every student reaches their full potential. Academic excellence is the main focus of our work here at Cheney and many of our students go on to study at the best universities across the country. We believe in facilitating our students’ personal development by offering a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities as well as delivering excellent pastoral care to support them through their school life.
Students at Cheney School are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities which await them in an increasingly demanding global workplace. Our school ethos is built on the key principle of providing an exciting learning environment where enthusiastic and skilled staff engage all students.
Barton Park Primary School will be joining the Trust in September 2020. With a capacity of 420, it will serve the whole of the new housing development's Primary Education needs
